Dear All,
As the year comes to an end, I wish to put on record, the bitter sweet events related to Delhi IAPS throughout the year.
I took over as Secretary and Prof S R Choudhury, as President of the DELHI IAPS CHAPTER at the Annual meeting at SGRH at the end of Nov’ 2017.
Academic meetings of the year 2018 under the aegis of IAPS DELHI CHAPTER started with UDS workshop and PSU at MAMC. Delhi was host to PESICON at the beginning of the year.
Four meetings including CMEs were held by Delhi IAPS through the year starting with the CME at KSCH which saw a new trend in the form of a half day Hands on Training course in Laparoscopy for members and trainees, in addition to the CME.
The next meeting in July at AIIMS witnessed superannuation of Prof D K Gupta who worked for nearly 4 decades at the Institute. In his next innings he has taken over as Director of the Child Super Speciality Hospital at NOIDA Sec 30 for the next 5 years. A Symposium on Esophageal substitution was held to mark the occasion
On 7th and 8th of September the next meeting of Delhi IAPS Chapter was held at RML as the Annual Delhi IAPS Chapter conference.
MAMC under Prof Sarin held two more Workshops under the banner of Delhi IAPS Chapter on topics which are not commonly touched upon – ‘Peer Review of Journals Workshop’ and ‘Use of Radionucleotides in Pediatric Urology and Nephrology’
The fourth meeting cum CME was held again at AIIMS to mark the Superannuation of another senior Pediatric Surgeon Prof V Bhatnagar. Prof Bajpai accomodated time for the Delhi IAPS from the annual pediatric urology update for felicitating Prof Bhatnagar. Dr. Anju Gambhir read out a brief CV on his achievements before presenting him with a bouquet. Prof. SR Choudhury presented him a plaque on behalf of Delhi IAPS after speaking a few words about him including his culinary skills , a secret known to few..A video on his long journey of 47½ years at AIIMS from an undergraduate to retirement as Prof and HOD was shown by Prof Sandeep Agarwala on the occasion. Prof Mohta, Dr. Anjan Dhua, Dr.Bibek Jindal also expressed their appreciation. Prof Bhatnagar then spoke about his years at AIIMS, gave advice to the younger generation and conveyed his thanks.
This year Delhi IAPS lost some very Senior and dear members: Dr. John Rattan , followed by Prof BD Dwivedi and Prof. Shalini Agrawal. Our regards and homage to them. May their soul rest in Eternal peace.
Dr. Chiranjiv and Dr. Shalu Shah joined the Deptt of Pediatric Surgery at MAMC and RML respectively as AP’s.
New Members who joined the Delhi IAPS Chapter are Dr. Chiranjiv , Dr. Vaibhav Garg. , Dr. Amit Gupta and Dr. Apurva.
Pediatric Surgery Awareness week was celebrated from 11th to 18th Nov 18 with gusto in various Hospitals across the city, report of which was sent earlier.
At the end , I WISH YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILIES A VERY HAPPY 2019’.
May the New Year bring with it good cheer and tidings for all and
May we all do our bit towards the children of the Nation to our best abilities.

May 2018
Dear All,
A Very successful Delhi IAPS meeting cum CME was held at KSCH on the 5th of May 2018 . For the first time a training session on MIS was conducted, starting at 10.30 am and continuing till 1.30 pm. It was well attended and was interactive along with some Hands on experience for the 12 attendees who along with the trainers later recd certificates for the same. Prof SR Choudhury and his team had organised it well. Kudos to their maiden effort and hope that in future we would see more such events in Delhi IAPS.
This was followed by 4 presentations on diverse topics ( Already detailed in previous mail) by the post graduates of the Department , with 2 presentations chaired by Prof Veereshwar Bhatnagar and 2 by Dr Shalini Agrawal. A healthy discussion followed each talk.
I am attaching few glimpses of the workshop and meeting
A GBM followed the meeting. Shall write about it in detail in the succeeding mail.
Kind Regards
Anju Gambhir
May 2018 GBM
Dear All,
As mentioned in the preceding mail, CME was held at KSCH on the 5th of May 2018. It was followed by a GBM. Various issues were discussed in a gathering of over 50 members which included PG’s. Prof D.K Gupta and Dr. Rakesh Handa had conveyed their regrets
1 ) A schedule for next three meetings of this year was finalized.
Accordingly, the next meeting would be on 28th July at AIIMS and as informed earlier , it will coincide with superannuation of Professor D.K. Gupta. It is proposed to have a CME on esophageal replacement, a favorite topic of Professor D.K Gupta.
Dr. Pinaki had sent in a request for the annual meet of the year to be held at RML this year. It was agreed by all and scheduled for early September.
The last meeting of the year proposed by Dr. Satish Agarwal would be held at Gangaram Hospital in November
Prof YK Sarin had mailed a request to hold the annual meeting of 2019 at MAMC.
Next year would mark 2 decades of formal organisation of Delhi chapter that happened in MAMC in 1999. I informed the house about it but it was decided to finalize it at the annual meet at RML in Sept 2018 .
2 ) I did not receive any cheque book or bank paper from the previous secretary Dr. Devendra Yadav . He informed the house that the bank account was in a bank at MAMC and the signatories were Prof Anoop Mohta and Dr. Chabi Ranoo Gupta, as told to him on each occasion that he visited the bank. It was decided that he would get an authority letter signed by them/ ask them to sign in the bank relinquishing their signatures in favor of present president and secretary.
3 ) The issue of bank came up because it was proposed to get the Delhi IAPS association registered For this an address and a PAN card are required. Prof. V Bhatnagar suggested that Dr. Devendra Yadav should check with the AO at AIIMS if we could get a room for office for IAPS Delhi at AIIMS. Registration should follow once these entire issues are cleared.
We are presently working on these already.
4 ) The next agenda was setting up a separate website for IAPS Delhi. Since it entails a lot of digital work daily and a devoted web master and also because lot of finance is required to set up the site it was proposed that we could request Dr Prakash, Secretary of National IAPS to give us a page in the National Newsletter of IAPS. I wrote to him and have received a quick reply confirming that they would accommodate us. He wrote to Dr. Ravi Kanojia who also kindly responded instantly in the affirmative.
I will attach the mails recd. from them for your kind perusal. In accordance, all members can send in any information they want displayed on the national website.
Hope to see you all in July
Kind regards
